Assistant Driller
Job Description
DRILLING OPERATIONS:
• Complete daily inspection and maintain required records.
• Perform all duties in a safe, professional, courteous, and conscientious manner.
• Assists the driller with drilling operations, including relieve the driller, while supervised, in drilling ahead, making connections, etc
• Assists during tripping drill pipe including relieve and/or assist derrick man and relieve the driller, while supervised, in operation of draw works and other equipment
• Assists in running and cementing of casing.
• Prepares BHA and rig floor equipment for tripping, casing and cementing operation
• Assists driller in other drilling operations
• Performs any other duties as assigned by driller or Tool Pusher
• Organizes and direct crews for special projects.
• May release Driller after demonstration of appropriate theoretical/practical skills and prior approval by Tool Pusher.
EQUIPMENT:
• Assists in maintenance and repair of drilling equipment including supervise drill crew’s daily preventive maintenance on draw works, mud pumps, rotary, swivel, and other drill floor equipment
• Monitors mud system, and supervise solids control equipment and mud mixing operations
• Repairs or assists in repair of non-drilling equipment as directed by supervisor
• Locates and dress tools
MANAGEMENT:
• Supervision of Rig crew.
• Assists in training of Rig crew.
• Responsible to carry out crew shift handover.
• Maintain good communication with driller, rig manager and maintenance team.
• Ensure that all company disseminated information applicable to his staff is communicated to them in Tool Box Talks, Safety Meetings or by means of Procedure/Instruction training and that execution of such communication/training is appropriately recorded as defined in respective Procedures.
• Carry out Tool Box Talks at the beginning of each shift and on change of operation/task and supervises all work of his staff to an extend as is necessary, to ensure the safety and integrity of staff and plant at all times.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
• Prepare trip sheet prior ruining in hole and pull out of hole.
• Calculate ton miles on drilling line
• Calculate drill string and BHA measurements
• Assist driller in maintaining records, logs
• Demonstrate well control knowledge and prepare kill sheet.
• Checks and replaces recorder charts daily at 24:00 hrs (if applicable)
Qualifications:
- A secondary school diploma
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in oil and gas industry.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the same position.
- Well Control Certificate level 3 ( IWCF ).
