Chief Mechanic
Job Description
• Operates, maintains and repairs prime movers and other engines with associated equipment.
• Maintains and repairs the rig fuel supply system.
• Operates and maintains air compressors.
• Maintains and repairs heat exchangers and air dryers.
• Monitors and repairs air regulators and all valves in air system.
• Repairs pneumatic pipe hoisting and handling equipment.
• Maintains and repairs draw works and associated components.
• Maintains and repairs rotary table, rotary transmissions, and associated components.
• Maintains and repairs mechanical components of Elmagco (auxiliary draw works) brake.
• Maintains and repairs hydraulic drill string torque system (E-Z torque).
• Maintains and repairs hydraulic power tongs and winches.
• Maintains and repairs swivel.
• Maintains and repairs the Top Drive system.
• Maintains and repairs well control and other equipment as may be assigned by the Rig Manager and Drilling Superintendent.
• Maintains and repairs potable water supply systems.
• Maintains and repairs brake cooling system and pumps.
• Maintains and repairs all types of water transfer pumps at the rig.
• Maintains sanitation system and pumps.
• Maintains and repairs power end of mud pumps.
• Maintains and repairs centrifugal pumps in mud circulation and conditioning system.
• Repairs mechanical components of mud conditioning equipment.
• Inspects, maintains and repairs cranes / forklifts and other vehicles.
• Assist other departments in equipment maintenance, repair or operation.
• Operates, installs, maintains and repairs additional or temporary mechanical equipment used for special operations.
• Organizes and promotes PMS (Preventive Maintenance System) and predictive maintenance with particular emphasis on safety.
• Maintains records and logs required by company using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Plans work of mechanical crew on a daily basis.
• Supervises compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Trains and evaluates subordinates.
• Controls inventory and budget for the mechanical department.
• Co-ordinates with other departments.
• Maintain good communication with supervisors and subordinates.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree.
- Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in oil and gas industry.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the same position.
